Those who responded to a tragic standoff that cost the life of Lenoir County detective Allen Pearson were honored Friday.

It was a bittersweet morning for officers on hand. Sheriff Billy Smith said the tragic death of Pearson is a reminder of the sacrifice men and women make every day to secure the public's safety. He says officers on the scene that day may have prevented further loss of life.

Several law enforcement personnel, including all officers on the county's Special Response Team, received awards.

Detective Pearson's partner, Ryan Dawson, who was wounded during standoff, also received a Purple Heart. Pearson received one posthumously.

I agree with you confused. Every one who responded that evening should have been recognized, not just a select few. I'm sure it took more than just those handfull of officers to take care of the problem. But our society has always been one were a few select take credit for the contributions of many. Again, I'm sure this was not a four or five man operation! With this said I'm sure these few officers are deserving, just as deserving as the rest of the officers who responded that tragic night who were not recognized.

I support anything to honor Allen and Ryan, My question is "WHY" ALL who were involved that Night was "Honored"..Not just a few, COME ON now, To my understanding the first responder who was shot at "FIRST" wasn't recongnized..Again I hate what happen but to me their are people who wasn't even thought of and should have been recongnized...
