Kinston: "The All-America City"

An All-America City award surely requires an all American celebration.

Eastern Carolina's own Kinston threw a bash at the historic Grainger Stadium to celebrate their 2009 All-America City award.

Many local, regional and statewide officials were on hand for the event including Governor Beverly Perdue.

A 27-member delegation traveled to Tampa June 17, 2009 to present a 10-minute skit highlighting Kinston's leadership in creating a multi-county water supply and treatment system, a "little by little" mentoring program at Southeast Elementary School and creation of the Gate, a faith-based youth center in downtown Kinston.

Governor Perdue offered her own praise for the honor.

"We want people around the county to know that we have progressive cities in our state. That North Carolina is poised to be the 7th largest state in America."

Perdue continued, " we are growing, we are changing, and even in these hard, challenging economic times to think that people here have kept on keeping on."

WHAT A JOKE! there isn't anything all American about Kinston. All American should mean there's something for all ages to do. If you ain't 65 and above you don't have anything to do except get in to trouble. And the so called growth is only gonna help Mexico, when the illegals send the money home. All growth is OUTSIDE of the city limits on the bypass. That's why Kinston wants to annex the whole county, because the city is going to H*** in a hand basket.

I wonder did they bring up that the poverty rate in Kinston is 37%? what about the crime rate statistics for the last 5 years? 1000 people looking to work for SPRIT AERO and 1,600 for Sanderson Chicken. now where are they coming from? where are they going to live? very little land for sale. if a housing development is built the city of Kinston will be quick to annex it.

7th largest state with one of the highest unemployment rate. Why dont growth happen somewhere in this state that deserves it.Those factories and or plants that are being built are going to employ very few people in Kinston being that most people that are worth a fudge already have a job the others live off the government and are a bunch of druggies that cant pass a simple urine screening or have to many felonies against them nobody would hire them.KINSTON IS A SLUM DUMP!

I'm not originally from Kinston but have lived here a long time now. My husband and his family have always lived in Kinston. They think there is no place else to live. I hate this place, whoever thought this was an all american city is crazy. Well I guess if it means a city that has been dying a slow painful death then I guess they are right. The whos who click of good ol boy network are the only ones who think this place is great. It's a joke that's not funny!
