Two area Highway Patrol Troopers were recognized at the Greenville office for going above the call of duty.

Trooper W.K. Bennett received the crime control and public safety commendation award and the Highway Patrol Samaritan award for responding and going to the aid of Lenoir County Deputies Allen Pearson and Ryan Dawson who were struck by gunfire.

Also trooper J.N. Wood received the same awards for observing a driver weaving on the highway.

He made the stop and realized the driver was in a medical emergency. The trooper administered sugar which saved the driver who was a diabetic.

Trooper Bennett said he is still shaken up by the loss of Deputy Pearson and preferred not to speak on camera.

Thank you Trooper Bennet, I too was there that night and observed how quickly you entered those woods to provide aid for Deputies Pearson and Dawson. The award is only a small piece of grattitude for such an honorable service. Thanks and God bless!!!!!!!!

I had Alan for PT and he wouldn't want any more tears shed. He would want all involved with Law Enforement and their families to learn from this expierence so this may never happen again.
