NEW INFO: Man Run Over, Killed By Tractor Trailer

A witness told police a tractor trailer was stopped at a light in Kinston early Monday morning, when a middle-aged man walked to the rear of the trailer and laid down in front of the wheels.

The witness told police the man was run over when the tractor trailer moved forward after the light turned green.

It happened about 3:15 a.m. at the intersection of West Vernon Avenue and Hill Farm Road.

The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim's family has not been notified.

The tractor trailer was a tanker, which was empty at the time, and is owned by Wilco Transportation.

A man is dead after getting hit by a tractor trailer.

Kinston Police say the man was hit at the intersection of Highway 70 West and Hill Farm Rd. in Kinston, near Wal-Mart. The fatal accident happened around 3:15 a.m. Monday.

Police say the driver of the truck did not leave the scene, and the investigation is underway.

Officials are not yet releasing the victim's name, saying they are in the process of notifying family. Police are also withholding the name of the truck driver for the time being.

    WHAT A SAD WORLD WE HAVE BECOME. CAN YOU EVEN BEGIN TO IMAGE WHAT THE POOR TRUCK DRIVE IS GOING THROUGH? YOU NEVER KNOW UNTIL YOU WALK IN ANOTHER MANS SHOES. IT'S REALLY HEART BREAKING WHEN A HUMAN FEELS THAT THERE IS NO OTHER CHOICE THAN SUICIDE.

    Sorry for the death of the man and his family. If he laid down in front of the truck tires, then it is not the truck driver responsibility. He was minding his business at the stop light.

    KPD were there like 5 minutes after we called them and they did an awesome job considering what they had to work with..so lay off of the police department and just leave it alone and let this man rest in peace. God Bless all your souls;Never know when you will need them...

    please pray for all victims involved. The man that died, the driver and witness. The latter have to live with what they went through.
