7 Year-Old Says She Was Sexually Assaulted At Boys & Girls Club

Police in the east are investigating claims that a seven year-old girl was sexually assaulted at the Boys and Girls Club in Lenoir County.

According to authorities, the seven year-old claims the assault happened Tuesday in the girls bathroom.

Police have no suspects in the case but are looking for a man possibly in his teens to early twenties.

Officials with the Boys and Girls Club of Lenoir County spent the day reassuring parents that the club is still a safe place for their kids to spend their summer days out of school.

The seven year-old was taken to Lenoir Memorial Hospital Wednesday night and that's when police were notified.

i feel like the 17 and 18 year old should not be in the same facility as 7-12 year olds.

I feel like the Boys and Girls club is located on the worst side of town, but at the same time they are always supposed to be mointored 24-7. But i must say thay my child has been attending the program for 3 years and this is the first time that i heard of something like this happening.

First of all, it would be safer because the chances of a sexual assault in a bathroom are already pretty low, so a place it's happened before would be on the watch. It's inherently safer than the grocery store down the street. Mathematically, anyway. As for gender segregation, the problem is that funding must be split between two facilities, and this is why YWCA and Girls' Clubs merged with YMCA and Boys' Club. Usually the boys get more funding, when they both need the help. So they pool their resources. And with more and more people coming to terms with homosexuality as a real and natural aspect of human development (like gender and skin color), gender segregation makes less sense. Assault is still possible in a gender segregated environment, even from the opposite gender (e.g. an employee), but if it's from another member of the club, it could be a member of the same gender. No, segregation would be a step back. Anyway, best wishes to this young lady as she recovers.

This Boys and Girls Club is on Tower Hill Road. One of the roughest parts of Dumpsville, also known as Ktown. It proudly says on its website that it is a United Way Organization(yeah, the same one begging for your hard earned money right now). This innocent little girl was most likely attacked by one of the neighborhood lowlifes.

Thats why it should of stayed a girls club or a boys club. We didn,t have coed when I was growing up.We also had a YMCA and a YWCA. That's why when you make things coed like collage, that's when you have date rape. You see it all the time.
