Kinston Awaiting Announcement

Kinston city offices are almost empty as leaders of the 35 member delegation make their way to Florida for the All- America city competition finals.

The National Civic League recognizes ten American cities each year that show concrete examples of public-private cooperation.

This year's finalists have created jobs, revitalized their downtowns, and reduced crime, among other accomplishments.

The decision will be made Friday in Tampa and businesses are excited to root them on.

Kinston was last named an All-America city in 1988 and was a finalist in 1997.

Well I work in Kinston. I go to peoples homes all the time to hook up their services. Im telling you folks that people are moving out of kinston by the droves. Most of them move out into the county to get away from the city of Kinston. Sometimes I ask them why did they move and every time I ask that question they always say I moved to get away from the City Of Kinston because I couldn't afford to live there anymore. Even Business owners are picking up and leavin and moving out into the county. Im originally from Goldsboro and I actually rented in kinston for a year and thought about buying a house there but after living in that dump of a city there's no way for as long as I have bresth in my lungs will I ever buy a house in Kinston. So I moved back to Goldsboro and bought a house. Kinston is garbage, there's no way that's even close to an all American city.

With this wonderful economy, why are sooooo many people spending this money to go and accept a reward? It will be interesting to see the total cost of this trip ... travel, food, and anything else paid for by the citizens.

Personally, I hope Kinston does not get the status as being an All America city. The last few years, the city government has driven Kinston into the ground. Now they are trying to forcibly annex areas where the residents cannot afford it. I hope they fall flat on their faces and get their noses rubbed in the mud. Their actions are totally un-American. Robbie Swinson and Alice Tingle were emailed by me personally several times. They ignored my pleas and turned a blind eye to the harm they would be doing the residents of the areas they plan to annex. They do not care about people, they only care about money. FYI What is ironic to me, is that Robbie Swinson, who voted for annexation which will put extra taxes on poor people, has been delinquent in paying his own taxes. That's a bit hypocritical in my opinion.

Number 1, who's paying for this Florida vacation? number2, where has Kinston revitalized it's downtown or created jobs? And it most definitely has not reduced crime. If Kinston gets the All America city award, it is definitely rigged. Someone was paid off.I rode through the downtown area on Sunday. Half the buildings look like they are about to fall down, and half of the other half are sitting empty. Some revitalization.
