State legislators continue to figure out ways to balance the state budget, and that means the Dobbs Youth Development Center in Kinston may be shut down.
Tuesday, the house subcommittee on justice and public safety proposed to slash 171 million dollars from the Department of Correction and 36 million from the Department of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention.
This proposal would force the school that has been there since 1944, to close its doors.
In the same proposed cuts-- the Smarakand Youth Development in Moore County would close along with eight state prisons and nearly 2,000 various positions in the state Department of Justice.
