Mother Of 11 Celebrates Mother's Day In Lenoir County

For a Lenoir County woman Mother's Day is quite the celebration with the latest gift arriving just three weeks ago. It's the brady bunch plus 5 in La Grange.

Karen Kozel says, "it's just a lot of fun and it doesn't seem burdensome. It's really rejuvenating for us."

To say Karen and her husband William have a few kids would be an understatement.

There is 17 year-old John, 15 year-old Scott, 14 year-old Kent, 14 year-old Kurt, 10 year-old Nick, 9 year-old Ben 8 year-old Luke, 8 year-old Leah, 4 year-old Jake, 2 year-old Jude, and 3 week old Brett

"I guess they are use to it," says Karen talking about her friends and family reacting to her saying their not going to have anymore kids. "

Every time we're like well this is probably it then they are expecting us to have another which we end up having."

Karen says she wouldn't change a thing in the world. She loves having her big family.

"It's really fun. Your either wiping fingers on the little boys or having great discussions with the big guys so it's really a diverse household."

In case your wondering Karen says her husband and 11 children got her a pedicure, manicure, a few purses, and some cards.

How do they afford 11 kids. I can't hardly make w/ the 2 I have and both my husband and I work. I wonder if they get government help (medicaid, wic, etc...). I sure don't qualify any!

What a great Mother's Day tribute to a very special family. We were guests of the Kozels at a family reunion a few years ago. They are as genuine and hospitable as they sound. They truely do view their children as gifts from God. The children are well behaved, helpful and polite! They are also very interesting to talk to. Thanks for printing such an uplifting story for Mother's Day!

It's as good as it looks - the Kozels are a terrific family - I've been to visit them several times & it just works for them! Big families aren't for everyone, but the Kozels (and Garner's - Karen's sister has at least 11 kids too) seem to thrive on the activity! You go guys! BTW - it was great to see you all on the video & meet Brett. Congratulations & Lots of Love!
