Child Abuse Prevention Month

Dozens of people gathered at the Lenoir County courthouse Wednesday morning to remember children suffering from child abuse.

It was all part of child abuse prevention month which runs all month long.

A flag was raised and more than 1,300 pictures of hands were displayed in the courthouse. Each hand represented a child killed from child abuse in our country.

Twenty-five children died last year in N.C. from abuse. That number is down from more than 30 in 2007.

Does this mean the DSS will actually get involved and investigate child abuse, or is their workload just too heavy to take the time? Children are being abused and killed because they don't have the manpower to investigete. It doesn't take a college education to see how children are abused and neglected. They go out one time to see what's happening, and as long as the child has a roof over their head and food to eat, they think everything is ok. If someone makes a call in to DSS they have seen the abuse and neglect. But a many of a child has dies or is seriously injured because of DSS lack of concern.
