GTP Wants 33-Million Dollar Rail System

A new project in Lenoir County could help boost its local economy.

The Department of Transportation held a meeting in Kinston Thursday night about a proposed project to provide the Global Transpark with rail access.

The DOT says building the 33 million dollar project is a critical link to the Global Transpark, providing rail service to the park for businesses like Spirit Aerosystems. Spirit is expecting to bring more than 1,000 jobs.

The DOT says they will accept comments on this project until March 9th.

I have an idea. Let's dig a canal from the ocean to the "great metropolis of Kinston." We can call it "Kingstown," and all the cruise ships are sure to come..Good idea, Aye

Spend the money on something worthwhile, like increasing the police force, cleaning up the horrible huge drug problem in this town, the drop-out rate is high, there are more drugs and addicts in Kinston and shootings with killings. I don't drive around or run errands at night, too high a risk of getting shot. Kinston in the ole days was a great town, now it is the pits, everyone wants to leave this town that I know, they have their houses on the market trying to get out of here. This is typical politics, dump taxpayers money down the drain on the rail to nowhere!!!!

Spirit Aerosystems has already broken ground and started building a very nice facility at the GTP and has promised to bring over 1,000 jobs to Kinston. I can't believe any of you would complain about spending 33 million dollars to bring a required rail system that Spirit must have in the current economy. So many of you need jobs, yet you whine and complain about this when Obama and his cronies just spent 24,000 times as much of your money on things you will never see. USE YOUR BRAIN!

Here we go again, tax payers will supply working capitol. Has the existing transpark made any money? If capitol is needed let them show and make the people of the plan accountable with no exclusions or loop holes. In the economy we do not need another project that just a few people will profit from.

They couldn't make a go of it with air transportation so now they want to pour rail money down that rathole. It's time that our legislators figured out what "sunk cost" means and pulled the plug on GTP.

When are the taxpayers of NC going to wise up and shout a resounding "NO!!!" to throwing more money down the rat hole that is the Global Transpark? When it was first started, I called it a scam, and it has proven me right over and over again all these years. All it is doing is making a select few "Advisors" and "Consultants" rich. Stop the nonsense!!

I can remember my mother always gripping about the extra fee she had to pay for license plates each year for the Global Transpark scam as she called it. I think they started this thing about 10 years or so before she passed away in 2001. She always said it like throwing money in a pig-pen and yelling for the pigs to take off with it.
