15 More Counties Added To Federal Disaster List

Fifteen more counties have been added to the federal disaster list in North Carolina, bringing the total now to 33 counties that have been approved for individual assistance.

Governor Perdue announced Sunday that Gates, Hertford, Johnston, Northampton, Vance, Bertie, Brunswick, Camden, Chowan, Duplin, Edgecombe, Martin, New Hanover, Pasquotank and Perquimans will be added.

The counties previously approved for individual assistance are: Beaufort, Carteret, Craven, Currituck, Dare, Greene, Halifax, Hyde, Jones, Lenoir, Nash, Onslow, Pamlico, Pitt, Tyrrell, Warren, Washington and Wilson.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency provides two types of assistance. Individual assistance aids families and businesses, while public assistance helps with community recovery costs, such as clearing debris and repairing public facilities.

In the past few days, Gov. Perdue has secured public assistance for 29 counties. That federal disaster declaration enables those counties to seek aid covering the costs of storm response, debris removal and infrastructure repairs.

Those counties are: Beaufort, Bertie, Brunswick, Camden, Carteret, Chowan, Columbus, Craven, Currituck, Dare, Duplin, Edgecombe, Greene, Halifax, Hyde, Jones, Lenoir, Martin, Nash, New Hanover, Onslow, Pamlico, Pasquotank, Pender, Perquimans, Pitt, Tyrrell, Wayne and Wilson.

The richest 3%-5% of the wealthiest Americans have succeded in turning the rest of us againt one another. I have never needed public assistance, I have been lucky. I am not so far removed to think I can't be next. I want my nieghbors to have food and be safe. I want safe bridges and roads. I want have street lights. I like my sewer, i enjoy using the bath room inside. I like having lights and clean running water. A hospital close by. I am tired of my tax dollars going to pay for weapons. Thats what our money goes to. Please stop hating and embrace the reality. You are being a fool to think they are on your side. Drive to one of these counties and take some bread and water maybe a blanket and some pillows. YOu need to see who the real enemy is.

An attitude of gratitude.....God provides what we need when we need it. All things work together for good to them who are called according to His plan.

Everyone receiving any type of goverment assistance should be required to show up at a designated place every morning and put in an honest days work. I know there is a lot of things that can be cleaned up and they should be able to help. Even prisoners pick up trash on the side of the road. They can get three free meals a day but every school child can not. Who deserves it more?

I lost all my food in the freezer due to power outage for 8 days and my obama food card blew away. Can I get a new one?

there should be help for all. sad thing is most of us are too proud to ask for it. we will take it on the chin and rebuild what ever we lost again. others will be in line before the doors open demanding more help than they need. for example if u were on food stamps it was the end of the month you should not have lost much, espicially frozen foods. next we are in a new month you will get your monthly allowance still. let those that were not already on stamps go first for emergency aid. then follow up with your loss. but no most will be if its free its for me, and it is owed to me because i already qualify. the change we got from obama is still going to those who expect it and have done nothing to deserve it.

while everyone is going back and forth about who should help us and who get what we should all just be thankful that we still have our lives and the food, repairs and cleanup will come.God will not leave his people. trust in him and all things shall past.so we all should help one another not hurt. God bless all of us!!

don't wait for or expect the govt. to help me. am fully prepared and purchase all i need in advance.

how did you accumulate the food in your freezer you lost? You bought it a little at the time, probably on sale, just like I did. That is how I expect to replace my food - a little at the time, and I will try to catch it on sale. I am not sure why people expect the government to pay for that. I will pay for it myself...slowly, but I will restock. Just not right now, cause there's another storm brewing out there!

I agree with you. We pay for our food and we don't get any type of assistance either. I think the government should help pay for this, we do pay our taxes.

Some people don't have it like that specially when there is no jobs around in your area even with a college degree. For those who have kids they are the ones that needs to be looked at first before adults. I also put my kids before me and that is how it should be.
