A retiree from Eastern Carolina will be able to live a little more comfortably now after winning $500,000 in the NC Education Lottery.
Roger Hall, a retired UPS driver from Pink Hill in Lenoir County, scratched off the $500,000 top prize on his "$500,000 Jackpot" ticket while sitting in his truck outside the Short Stop on Jackson Street in Beulaville, where he purchased the ticket.
Hall's win came just three days before another lucky day in his life, his 39th wedding anniversary.
Hall plans to use a portion of his winnings, worth $340,003 after taxes, to pay bills and spend a little extra on his anniversary. Hall says, "I thought I would take her out and buy her a hot dog. I'm going to splurge."
