Showers And Storms Continue To Impact The Area

Scattered showers and storms continue to impact the area this evening and will linger into the overnight.

The severe threat will diminish this evening but a few isolated strong to severe storms cannot be ruled out.

Regardless of whether or not the storms become severe expect heavy rain, lightning, and gusty winds in any storm that develops.

Thunderstorms capable of strong wind gusts and heavy rain are currently impacting the east.

While the threat of tornadoes is an isolated one, a tornado warning was issued earlier today for Halifax and Nash county. There was a report of a tornado touch down near Highway 58 in Nash County, but the National Weather Service has not confirmed that.

The afternoon heating will result in more thunderstorms late today and into the early evening hours. Most will be under severe weather thresholds, but a few could become severe. The biggest threat with any storm will be strong wind gusts and frequent cloud to ground lightening.

Additionally, rainfall rates will be very high making visibility very low at times. Try to avoid roadways the typically flood in heavy rain events.

Previous Story
There is a tornado warning in effect for Halifax and Nash Counties until 2:00 p.m.

This is a Doppler indicated tornado and could impact the areas of Aventon and Glenview.

People in areas that could be affected should take action. Here's what the National Weather Service recommends: Move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building. Avoid windows. If in a mobile home, vehicle or outdoors, move to the closest substantial shelter. If no shelter is available lie down in a low lying area. Protect yourself from flying debris.
