The Department of Justice says 36-year-old Samuel Cooper, Jr. pled guilty to possessing a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime and possessing a machinegun.
Authorities say Cooper was a drug dealer in Rocky Mount. Law enforcement saw marijuana in plain view at his home on October 4, 2010. Officials obtained a search warrant, which led to the discovery of a Norinco, model SKS, 7.62 fully automatic rifle along with ammunition for the rifle and a Smith and Wesson .22 caliber Ruger revolver.
Cooper's sentencing is scheduled for October 15. He faces a maximum of life in prison for possessing a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime and up to ten years imprisonment for possessing a machinegun.
