Suddenlink Email Back Online

An email outage that impacted thousands of Internet customers here in Eastern Carolina has been fixed.

Suddenlink's email system crashed nationwide Friday morning. People were unable to get or receive emails, either through the cable company's web-based mail or third party email programs like Outlook.

The cable company restored email Saturday, according to customers. But, those who relied on the company's webmail apparently have lost any previously saved emails, contacts, or calendar items. The company says it's working on fixing that problem.

Suddenlink is one of the major Internet providers here in Eastern Carolina, serving Greenville, Kinston, New Bern, Rocky Mount and Washington.

The cable and Internet provider says its entire email system crashed this morning and is still down.

Senior Vice President for Corporate Communications Pete abel says they're trying as hard as they can to get the problem fixed as quickly as possible. He says it was first noticed around 6:00 a.m. and they're unsure whether it will be restored to everyone at the same time, or if it will come back region by region.

Internet service, he says, has not been impacted by the outage.
