Statewide Unemployment Numbers Wrapping Up 2012 Show Downturn

Overall, the job market took a downturn in the last month of 2012 in the state of North Carolina.

According to a new unemployment numbers report out of the North Carolina Department of Commerce, only three counties statewide saw unemployment stay the same or drop.

The report showed even while accounting for seasonal employment, the unemployment rate average statewide was at 9.5%.

In Beaufort County, the rate was at 11.1%. That is up by 0.8% since November.

In Carteret, the rate went up a full percentage point to 9.3%.

Craven County went up a little more than half a percentage point, giving the county a 10% unemployment rate.

Martin County stood at 11.4% unemployed. Onslow was at 8.8%, while Pitt County was up by half a percentage point to a 9.6% unemployment rate for December.

Counties with highest rates included Graham, Scotland, Swain, Dare, and Edgecombe counties.
