Officials say the owner of a Rocky Mount tax preparation business used the IRS as his personal piggy bank.
Larry Hill Jr. of Rocky Mount has pleaded guilty.
Officials say Hill and his co-conspirators filed well over 2,000 returns from 2010 to 2012 and that most of them reported false information like dependents, income and withholding.
Hill is accused of collecting, on average, $1,000 or more from each refund.
Hill owned and operated Hill's Tax Service (HTS), a tax return preparation business which, at various times, maintained offices in Rocky Mount, Farmville, Scotland Neck, Hollister, and Wilson.
He could be sentenced to as many as 13 years in prison and a half million dollar fine.
