UPDATE: Police Respond To Shots Fired At Rocky Mount Mall

Authorities say a teen has been injured after at least five shots were fired at a mall in Rocky Mount.

Police told the Rocky Mount Telegram that two groups of teens were arguing around 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the Golden East Crossing Mall when one of the teens pulled out a gun and began firing.

Investigators say a 13-year-old boy showed up at a hospital later with a grazed bullet wound to the leg. A shop window was also shattered.

Shoppers say most of the stores lowered their security gates as soon as the shots rang out and the mall was closed for the night as police investigated.

No arrests have been made, but investigators say they are reviewing security camera footage.

I really wish these young people would really sit down and read a book. They want to have the gang image and it is corrupting our community.

Let's look at this a little closer: Hmmmmm, must be 21 years of age to possess, use, transfer, etc. a handgun. Nope! They were kids, not legal adults, so they obtained, possessed, and used the gun ILLEGALLY. Even pointing a gun at another IS use of deadly force. Shooting at, or even near another person, with or without the intent to do hard, is also a major crime. Yep, criminals. Thugs. Don't care about life. Feel entitled. How's that Obama change working out for us all? And to think folks are going to vote for him AGAIN!?!?!?!?!!!!! Stop the craziness already.

Thugs are everywhere in eastern NC. Guess we decent citizens should move away and let them have it..In no time it will be a little Detroit. WHERE are the parents of these thugs! Or should I say "baby mamas"?

The "crime" section of this site is filled with the children sired under the "kids for checks" program. The last 20 years of chickens are coming home to roost.

None of this can be true. If I'm not mistaken, that mall, like most, has a sign on the door that says "no guns allowed".

To my knowledge there is no sign prohibiting carry at the mall, not that I have seen as a ccw permit holder who does not go to RM without my gun.

This is why I go out of town and shop. Why we keep losing business. People like this thinks a gun solves everything,in time they will either be dead or in jail.

True, but unfortunately, it will be passed to the next generation and go on and on...

I work in Rocky Mount but choose to live elsewhere for this very reason. I don't even go to that mall during the day. The thugs don't work and you can see them at the mall during daylight hours. Why in the world wouldn't the business's out there band together and do what they can to put a stop to this. No one wants to go there because of this.

What can they do? If anyone said anything you know the Buffet Slayer would make a special trip from Raleigh just to protest the racism.

I agree. I live near and do not shop the mall. I worked in that mall for years, but it is not safe at anytime. The RMPD say we do not have a gang problem. I beg to differ. The rocky mount mall should do like Triangle Town Center did. At 5PM, if you are under 18 and NOT with an adult, you must LEAVE!! They make an announcement to that affect! I Love IT! And the kid that was grazed, the mama was not at that hospital with the kid either. We have lost about 5 businesses in the past 2 months from that mall. Its so sad.

I had'nt heard of the policy at Triangle Town Center. They had an incident with gangs of youth fighting at that mall. That policy would work well at all of the malls in eastern NC. It's a shame how the Wilson Mall has completely died, when it used to be such a vibrant mall. I wonder how long JCPenny will remain there. I can see why malls are going away. They just become gathering places for the low lifes & gangs of the area.

this is so messed up, seems like Rocky Mount has just given up and handed all the city over to the thugs, they need to be treated like roaches, spray them and step on them, do what you have to do to get rid of them

I use to work in that mall as a teenager back in the late 80's and early 90's. The Rocky Mount use to be a good place to go and shop and for teens to go. Rocky Mount had one troubled area which was the south side. I'm hoping it will get back on track one day. In the meantime, I will limit my time there. On a brighter note, I am glad to see that the same security guard is still working there since the mall open. He really loves his job.

I remember the RM Mall back in that time as well, and it was a totally different place. Now it's a sanctioned thugville, and the only way I step foot in that mall is if I am either open carrying, or concealed. "City on the Rise" LOL, what a total joke!

What a sewer for a community! Can anyone give a good reason to be in RM? Even culturally or socially? Gangs are so embedded here that decent people should just concede defeat and move.

The whole I-95 thing is all that it has going for it. This will keep some transportation and manufacturing/distribution jobs in the area. Other than that, I think certain parts of it should just be bulldozed.
