Traffic Backup On I-95 North Due To Earlier Crash

A traffic slowdown continues on I-95 near the Nash and Wilson County line after an 18-wheeler and a tanker wrecked this morning.

Earlier today the northbound lanes were closed for several hours while crews removed the tanker truck. Now the lanes are closed again while crews remove the 18-wheeler that ended up in the woods.

Traffic is being slowly directed around the shoulder of the highway, but traffic is backed up for about four miles, beyond mile post 121.

Motorists are being urged to get off at Exit 121, turn right on US 264, left on Airport Boulevard, left on Highway 58, left on Highway 97 and then back on I-95 at exit 127.

The D.O.T. expects the interstate to reopen later this evening.

The accident happened at milepost 125 in Wilson County.

The D.O.T. says at first all northbound lanes of the interstate were closed. One northbound lane has been reopened to traffic, but traffic remains heavily congested in the area.

The crash is also impacting southbound traffic because of people slowing down to look at the accident.
