The National Weather Service at Newport/Morehead City has issued a Flood Warning for Chicod Creek near Simpson.
This warning is for Pitt County. The warning was issued at 4:39 a.m. and is in effect until further notice.
At 3 a.m. Thursday the stage was 10.2 feet and the flood stage is 10 feet. The flood is expected to impact low lying areas adjacent to Mobley's Bridge Road.
The National Weather Service In Raleigh also issued a Flash Flood Warning for Edgecombe County until 8 a.m.
At 5:03 a.m. the National Weather Service Doppler Radar indicated thunderstorms with very heavy rain producing flooding over Edgecombe County. While heavy rain has ended in this area for the moment, additional storms could move or develop over the area.
Locations threatened with flooding include Tarboro, Princeville, and Sppeed. An additional one inch of rainfall is still possible resulting in additional flooding. The National Weather Service cautions residents to never drive into areas where the water covers the road.
