Elderly Woman Busted For Growing Pot

An elderly woman is accused of growing marijuana in her yard.

Rocky Mount police arrested Sallie Hollinger on Wednesday after they found ten pot plants growing in her yard, and discovered six marijuana pipes, two pill bottles with pot inside and rolled marijuana inside her Western Avenue home.

The 69-year-old woman was charged with possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver marijuana, felony possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and maintaining a dwelling for controlled substances.

Her bond was set at $5,000.

I'm a conservative republican and I know the law against pot is wrong. You don't see people selling alcohol on the street corner because alcohol is legal. So if you want pot off the street corner just leagalize it. The current laws against marijuana ruin more lives than the marijuana itself. Ask Sallie I'm sure she would agree.

No they just have parties that underage people go to where the alcohol & pther drugs are readibly available! There is an illegal market for just about every legal product. So while they may not be selling alcohol on the street corner, they sell a lot of other legal stuff on street corners across the United States.

Then why aren't there more arrests for minors possessing alcohol? It appears prohibitionists have no problem bearing false witness. There's no science which would dictate that marijuana should be illegal.

Well Ann i Agree we need to promote chist %110 but how is marijuana morally wrong??? One is not hurting anyone when i smoke or ingest it. Its purely their choice. And im sorry some1 in your family got an addiction but that is because they were weak minded and is just has an addictive personality (no offence) i have smoked for years and am not addicted. im more addicted to ciggaretts than anything else. they are the devil

I say let her go home. Im glad she is not a zanny granny. If anyone was worried about their kids getting into anything, which sounds like they were, be glad it wasn't zanny bars. Kids and zannies don't go together.

So for all of you "experts" out there who want to legalize marijuana & say it is safe, why stop there? Why not cocaine? Why not heroin? Hey just tax it, it is the individuals body & if they want to mess up thir own body why is the gov't prohibiting them? I mean just as you say alcohol & cigarettes do a lot of harm to the body of the individual who uses them... Heck why have speed limits? If my car can go 140 mph, why should the gov't tell me it is against the law? Heck why have any laws at all, let each person decide what is "right & wrong..." There you go all you "anonymous" people have at it!

They allready do have cocaine and heroin legal in pill form . jenks23 its because anyone can grow it and they cant profit from it duh. This lady may do it for pain or cancer problems . WE need a crack down on the pill problem and cocaine and heroin in any form, they should change the laws if anyone sell to kids they should go to jail for life . look what some are doing to get high its called jenking a Inhalant parents need to look for there using human waste really nasty. iseen the story on this sight last year. This poor elderly lady did no wrong in my eyes if she did not sell to anyone and for her own use . her crime is small if it was for personal use only. but drug dealer that sell to kids thats a no no. What if they got laced pot to get them hooked .thats why something should be done about all drug problem. Nacy Regan wanted to keep kid's safe We should keep them safe. lock up the dealers that sell to underage for life

Momof4 you are way out there & I do not even begin to know how to trully respond to your comment... I have never heard of cocaine or heroin coming in a pill. So unless you can provide some links/answers/proof of what you are referring to, I'll leave my response at this, I agree there is a huge pill problem as well & efforts need to & are being done to rectify that. Yes I know the war on drugs is not something we can "win." Neither is the war on terorrism, but that does not mean we need to just stop trying to fight it!

So, how much of you salary is paid for by the tobacco industry? Are you in favor or criminalizing it, too? It's a dangerous drug, much more dangerous than marijuana, with no redeeming value. If you want to take marijuana out of the hands of minors, first you have to take it out of the hands of black market dealers. We couldn't do that in 40 years and over a TRILLION wasted dollars. It's a failed policy. Legalize and Regulate, EXACTLY as we do alcohol. Put distribution in the hands of responsible and licensed people who won't sell to minors. None of my salary is paid by the tobacoo industry. " Put distribution in the hands of responsible and licensed people who won't sell to minors." Now that NEVER happens through responsible & licensed people with alcohol or cigarettes... I guess youare not aware but there is a black market with cigarettes but tobacco has NEVER been banned for sale to adults! There is also a "black market" for certain types of alcohol. Your theory may sound good on paper but there is a black market for almost every legal product on the market. All of you guys are saying she "may" be doing it for pain problems. I do not know the lady & I do not know why she uses it so I will not specualte. Regardless if you or anyone else disagrees with the law, it is still the law! There is probably someone out there who disagrees with every law & that was my point. According to you guys if it is up to me why should someone else tell you what you can & cannot do? So who decides what should or should not be law? Each individual? Well what happens when two people disagree, who is to say which one is right?

You wrote, "I do work in LE!" So,are you saying tobacco taxes don't contribute to your salary? What percentage of the alcohol and tobacco markets are black marketed. And the only reason they would be is to avoid taxation. Science doesn't justify keeping marijuana illegal. Dems and Reps, different pages from the same bad book! Marijuana grows naturally on this earth with no enhancements like needed with cocaine. Heroin is completely different, it is man made. Some of the same things people who want pot legally fight against. If I am in pain why can't I choose something made straight from the ground than chemicals in prescriptions? It's not like we want to break all laws and do what we want but when there is a need in a person like depression or anxiety and pot fixes it without man made chemicals how can you say no you should take the pills which are worse for your body? What if the next time you are in excruciating pain the government bans prescriptions that would help you? What are you to do then? Trust they are right to deny you? Or would you feel discriminated against?

Heather according to you it does those things. According to certain scientist/medical professionals it does those things. But according to other scientist/medical professionals it does not. So again we get back to my point in saying who decides what is right or wrong & who decides which point of view is correct? There are many different medicines out there that work for some people but do not work for other people. Your point on what I would do is a "what if" type question & there are no answers for what if questions b/c as soon as someone answers that, someone else can come up with a yeah but what if...

Jenks23, if WITN allows my post to come through in response to RN from BOCO, then read it. That is what would make the drug cartels go away and would increase trillions of dollars in profit for the United States. May I add, make stiffer penalties for the criminals who let such a drug lead to a problem that involves criminal activity (not including the current law of marijuana being illegal).

Slippery slope fallacy, but I'll induldge regardless. For starters, how many people do you see on marijuana that are severly addicted? Answer that, then we can procede down your road.

NC get off the pot already!! Marijuana is much safer than alcohol. The only reason it's not legal everywhere is bc the government just hasn't figured out a way to profit from it. In the countries that have made it legal, have seen a dramatic decrease in the use of heavier drugs such as..heroin, meth, crack etc. Leave the lady alone and let her go!!

That's due to the fact you have all these idiots from the government who are too stupid to realize that the war on drugs costs trillions more than keeping a marijuana user in the jailhouse. Also, the revenues from taxing marijuana exceed the revenues from making these drug busts. What needs to also be done in addition to legalizing and taxing is that strict regulation must come into place. They should implement an electronic system stating who can legally grow marijuana and who can legally sell marijuana. Also in the system should state each transaction, who it's sold to, and who it's bought from, as well as the quantities grown, quantities sold to the customer on each transaction. Have an ID # for each customer, one for each vendor, and one for each grower. Any fraudulent information given out should be subject for a one year ban on the license to sell, as well as a steep fine. Second time, ban them permanently from selling again. How could the government go wrong with this idea? This makes perfect sense.

Not an Obama fan by any means here..BUT..it was Obama that told the DEA and feds to back off and let each state that has MMJ laws govern themselves. Personally I have been dragged thru the mud here in NC for growing my own and wanting to medicate myself that way instead of dealing with the piils. All about the money illegal MJ brings into this and the other 43 states out ther that don't have MMJ laws...God, I can't wait to get away from this Nazi regimn we call NC. P.S...Jenks..have you ever heard of Diladid or Oxycodone?? Buddy, your the biggest moron on this board..get a life!!!!

Nice comment Puff Daddy! When did I ever call anyone a name? But hey if that is what makes you feel better have at it! Also, last time I checked we live in a Country where you do not need a Passport to go to another State or even move to another State. So if NC is such a "Nazi" (I believe the word you were looking for after that is regime) what is keeping you? Feel free to move to California or any other State anytime now! Now to answer your question before your wonderful name calling, of course I have heard of those drugs. However they are derivatives from the opiate class & not cocaine or heroin in a pill form. If you meant to say they have some of the same properties, I'll agree to that. That was not my point. Have a nice day!

If everything God made is good and right then how do we say that pot is not? It is grown with no enhancements from man. Maybe he intended for those in need of pain medication??? Who are you to decide that it is not Christ like. As you can see by my capitalization's I am Christ like but I for one am not convinced that pot wasn't made here for our pain instead of man made pills. I'm sorry your family chooses addiction but pot is not the nemesis.
