Two Dead After Shooting At Rocky Mount Grill

Police say a man walked into a Rocky Mount restaurant late Thursday morning and killed his girlfriend. They say the body of the gunman was found nearby a short time later.

Corporal Mike Lewis says it happened around 11:30 a.m. at Westridge Grill, that's on Sunset Avenue.

Lewis says Cynthia Joyner of Rocky Mount was killed. He says Carlos Whitaker, also of Rocky Mount, came into the restaurant and shot the woman who worked there. Lewis says the two were in a relationship.

The 37-year-old man's body was later found in a wooded area behind the shopping center with what police say was a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The two bodies will be taken to the Medical Examiner's Office in Greenville for an autopsy.

Corporal Lewis says the double shooting remains under investigation. No one else was injured.
