Area High School Football Teams Play For State Titles

Several area high school football teams will play for a state championship this weekend. Jones county took on Murphy Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Tarboro goes for its 3rd straight championship Saturday as Kinston and Ayden-Grifton try to capture their first state title ever. Havelock will try to complete an undefeated season in the state title game.

The entire student body packed into the gym at Havelock High School first thing Friday morning for a big send off. They're hoping this morning's pep rally will stick with the football team as they take on West Rowan for the title. Their head coach says they've worked for it, and their quarterback says he wants the whole team to keep a few things in mind on the field.

"They've achieved every goal we've set for them except for winning the state championship. So we have one goal left and hopefully we'll obtain that tomorrow." said Havelock head coach Jim Bob Bryant.

"Play with your hearts. Play with clear eyes. Do what you know is right. Play for each other," said quarterback Garrett Crowe

Havelock will play West Rowan Saturday at 11:00 am at Kenan Stadium in Chapel Hill.
