Boy Scouts Rename Camp For Eatery Entrepreneurs

The Eastern Carolina Council of the Boy Scouts is renaming a camp that honored a former congressman in favor of a family of local entrepreneurs.

The East Carolina Council of the Boy Scouts of America has renamed its summer camp on the banks of the Pamlico River in honor of Rocky Mount's Boddie family.

The family owns several restaurant chains and has long supported the Boy Scouts.

The camp was named after Herbert C. Bonner, a former congressman from Beaufort County who died in 1965. The Bonner bridge connecting the main islands of the Outer Banks is also named for him.

The Boy Scouts have camped along the Pamlico River for 40 years since the property was purchased from Weyerhaeuser and private landowners.
