Grand Jury Indicts Edgecombe County Murder Suspect

An Edgecombe County grand jury has indicted a suspect on a murder charge in one of six cases being investigated by authorities.

The clerk's office of the Edgecombe County Court said Tuesday that Antwan Pittman was indicted on one count of first-degree murder in the death of 29-year-old Taraha Shenice Nicholson.

Nicholson was found strangled in March, her body dumped along a rural road on the outskirts of Rocky Mount. Nicholson was the fifth of six women found dead in the same area.

The Edgecombe County Sheriff arrested the 31-year-old Pittman last week.

The sheriff's office will not comment on the investigation into the deaths of the other women. Three Rocky Mount women are still missing.
