Today 26 more state prisons go tobacco-free. That's for staff, inmates and visitors.
Prisons here in Eastern Carolina that are now smoke-free include Craven, Eastern, Fountain, Greene, Maury, Nash, Neuse, Odom, Pamlico, Pasquotank and Wayne.
Duplin was one of five state prisons that went smoke-free in a pilot project last year.
The Department of Correction says there is no time frame yet on when the rest of the prisons will do the same.
The D.O.C. says it is working to establish cessation training for employees and inmates.
