OFFICIALS: More Than 1,000 Fugitives Arrested In Eastern NC

The streets of Eastern Carolina are safer, officials say, with the arrest of more than 1,000 fugitives in the month of June alone.

The U.S. Marshals Service says Operation FALCON is the largest and most successful fugitive apprehension effort in U.S. Marshals history.

There were 1,196 people arrested in Eastern North Carolina last month, including 22 sex offenders. Officials say three of them were not registered.

“The goal of Operation FALCON is simple – to make communities safer,” said John F. Clark, Director of the U.S. Marshals Service. “Each time we wrap up a FALCON operation in any location, there are less dangerous individuals – and fewer threats to the community – than before we arrived there. That is very gratifying.”

The following agencies contributed to the effort: U.S. Marshals, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, U.S. Department of State – Diplomatic Security Services, U.S. Department of Agriculture, Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office, Nash County Sheriff’s Office, Pitt County Sheriff’s Office, Robeson County Sheriff’s Office, Wake County Sheriff’s Office, Fayetteville Police Department, Greenville Police Department, Lumberton Police Department, Raleigh Police Department, Sharpsburg Police Department, Wilmington Police Department, Wilson Police Department, N.C. Division of Community Corrections, and the Cumberland County Alcohol Beverage Control Board.
