NAACP: Appoint A Black District Attorney

The NAACP plans to petition Governor Bev Perdue to appoint an African American to a soon-to-be-vacant district attorney post in the East.

Howard Boney is retiring on May 1 as district attorney for Nash, Edgecombe and Wilson Counties.

The NAACP is holding a news conference at the Edgecombe County Courthouse at noon Wednesday. The group says African Americans make up a majority of the population in Edgecombe County and a significant part of the population in Wilson and Nash counties.

"When the 44 District Attorneys in North Carolina meet, only one is African American,” said Andre’ Knight, Rocky Mount NAACP President.

“If she reviews it carefully, she will find only one black assistant D.A. out of 38 attorneys and staff for this three county district. That is an insult, not just to people of color, but to all people who believe in justice," said Rev. Dr. William Barber, NC NAACP President.

It is amazing to me that the NAACP and other organizations that are inherently biased still exist today. Why do we perpetuate one of society's biggest problems?

Oh yes! Let's give the DA job to a black person just because he or she is black. Not b/c they are capable (which they may be, but that's not really the point.) ALL jobs are suppose to given to people who are QUALIFIED!!!! Regardless of Race, religion, etc.

The NAACP is most racial org. out here!!! If everybody is suppose to be treated equal, why do they always want special treatment??? The worst part about them is all the other races lay down to them, esp. white people.. We need to grow a back again and quit letting them walk all over us. Oh i forgot all white people owe them something for stuff that happen before most of us were living

I think the fact that Americans elected a half black and half white president that the walls should have fallen. No more race barriers folks, get it? Don't give me that slavery thing since my own people were slaves however, I don't feel that 100 years ago maters now. Harping on old history is not making the future better, its just dragging the past like the NAACP does and Al and Jessie. You see this is why they get paid "Your Money". As long as they can they are milking you for whatever they can and as long as naieve followers will follow. At some point, you can move up, just work and be a good American, it worked for my people try it with yours.

Are you kidding me? Does it matter if the person (of any color) is qualified? The NAACP needs to stay out of a lot of things, this is part of the reason that Obama is president, because he is definitely not qualified. Why is it that we as a nation let ourselves be intimidated by such organizations as this...let the qualifications speak for itself, not the color. Wow! Will America ever wake up? Don't let initmidation overrule what is right, no matter what the issue.

The NAACP needs to but out of political issues. The ONLY person who should be hired into this position is the one who is THE MOST QUALIFIED. Not because of their color of skin but because they are the most qualified. We could be yelling for her to hire a woman just because she is female but we need to look at qualifications here. It does not matter if the person is black or white they will do their for the people they represent. If the NAACP wants a black person in office make sure they get the education and experience and there should be no problem. They need to start looking at other issues besides color for this job.

JustASuggestion I try to cater to all folks and that is why I write as I do. You see you wouldn't have anything to add to this discussion because you and so many others are in denial when it comes to the real issues. You got my point because if you didn't you wouldn't have responded. Oh by the way I ain't the one so I will spend my money however I please. The other thing I don't hide behind code names and stand behind whatever I post unlike you. The time and money invested would probably do wounders in making your arguments more persuasive and, well, less "ignant"!!
