2 Sides In Poultry Plant Dispute Talk It Over

Gov. Beverly Perdue has brought together city and county leaders fighting over a proposed poultry plant, but that doesn't mean the issue is resolved.

The Rocky Mount Telegram reports that leaders from Nash County and the city of Wilson met with the governor in Raleigh earlier this week.

Perdue spokesman Mark Johnson says the governor wants to help the two sides find a resolution to the dispute.

Wilson has sued Nash County over a proposed Sanderson Farms poultry plant. The city is worried about effects on water quality and land values. Nash County says the plant will bring 1,100 jobs to the region.

So far, the two sides have spent over $1 million in the dispute since it broke out last year.

When it comes to chicken farming, is there any way to deal with the waste without harming the environment? The answer is probably 'yes', but then the corporations talk about the costs. All agriculture needs to have updated features that better filter waste products, especially when waterways are involved.
