$225,000 Height Mistake On U.S. 64 Getting Fixed

A $225,000 mistake by a D.O.T. worker is getting a fix, starting today in Edgecombe County.

Westbound traffic on U.S. 64 at Princeville is closed until Friday as crews work to replace a bridge girder that was damaged back in May. That's when a D.O.T. employee pulled an excavator under the bridge that was too high for the overpass. The accident broke out chunks of the concrete girder, closing down the overpass. The employee was charged by state troopers and was given a two week suspension by the D.O.T.

The girder cost $25,420 and it will cost $199,310 to replace it.

Because of the work, traffic on U.S. 64 West will take Exit 488, turn left on Shiloh Farm Road, right on U.S. 64 Alternate and left on U.S. 258/Mutual Boulevard back to U.S. 64 West.
