Working On The Railroads

Work to improve railroad crossings in Jones and Lenoir Counties will mean some road closures over the coming weeks.

Starting Thursday, the N.C. Department of Transportation will begin closing several roads at railroad crossings throughout the two counties. This will allow the N.C. Railroad Co. to upgrade all of their crossings in the counties.

The work means traffic will be closed at the crossings at two separate times. Each closure is expected to last one day. Here is a list of which crossings will have closures:
Jones County:
-Tilghman Road
-British Road
-Caswell Station Road
Lenoir County:
-Neuse Road
-King Street
-Vernon Avenue
-Hill Crest Road
-U.S. 258 North
-Hill Farm Road
-Banks School Road
-Eason Road
-Albert Sugg Road
-Norbert Hill Road
-Willie Measly Road
-Aldridge Store Road

The work should be complete by the end of November, according to the DOT.

The so called 'improvements' of some RR intersection in Greenville unbelievably left the crossing in worse condition for car traffic than they were before the work. Specifically, the crossing at 10th and Grande Ave.

I agree that the crossing near Arby's needs to be worked on, but try shutting down Greenville Blvd for that period of time it would take to replace it? People there would throw a FIT! Sort of like when Firetower was being worked on. I am 100% sure it would have been completed in like half the time if they had just shut it down (open to local traffic obviously) and set up detours but it would have affected business and people would have complained anyway. Danged if you do, danged if you don't!

The one recently completed on Neuse Blvd in New Bern is worse than it was before they touched it. I sure hope the other 3 I cross everyday in Lenoir County don't get worse or I'll never be able to keep my truck aligned properly.

You Greenville residents can have the Jones County work crews. Your traffic is obviously more important and there aren't any people living in Jones county anyway, except me...and I never leave the house because I might be offended by something I see or hear....or say something offensive that I'll be sued for saying/thinking.

Agree with "resident". The crossing on Greenville Blvd. near Arby's has been in horrific condition for years now. It is inexcusable how the condition of that crossing has been neglected for so long. CSX - where are you?

That's great news for Jones and Lenoir. Now how about repairing the crossing on Greenville Blvd near Arby's? It is very jarring to cross, especially if a vehicle is traveling west.
