A North Carolina pharmacy chain with several locations in the area is being bought out.
Walgreens is buying Kerr Drug's retail outlets throughout the state for an undisclosed amount.
Kerr Drug is based in Raleigh and has 13 locations in Eastern Carolina, including Kinston, Ayden and Washington. Some of those drugstores are in close proximity to existing Walgreens, including the Kinston and Washington locations.
Walgreen says it expects to complete the purchase next year and after that the Kerr locations would retain their names until the company can determine the best way to integrate them into Walgreens operations.
Kerr Drug has 76 locations in North Carolina and last year had record sales of $381 million.
