Vidant Has Healthy 2012; $112 Million Surplus

Vidant Health is getting a healthy year end report when it comes to the bottom line.

The largest hospital system in Eastern Carolina reported a $112 million profit in fiscal 2012, compared to $90 million last year. The 9 hospital system had $1.55 billion in revenues in 2012.

Because it's a non-profit system, Vidant reinvests all of its surplus back into the hospitals and clinics.

Vidant says increased patient demand allowed them to add approximately 1,300 full-time employees in its system. At flagship Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, more than 280 new jobs were added.

The hospital system says it had some 68,000 inpatients and 758,000 emergency and outpatients.

In addition to Vidant Medical Center, Vidant Health includes Vidant Beaufort Hospital in Washington, Vidant Bertie Hospital in Windsor, Vidant Chowan Hospital in Edenton, Vidant Duplin Hospital in Kenansville, Vidant Edgecombe Hospital in Tarboro, Vidant Pungo Hospital in Belhaven, Vidant Roanoke-Chowan Hospital in Ahoskie, and The Outer Banks Hospital at Nags Head, where it is a 60 percent owner. The system also manages Albemarle Health in Elizabeth City.
