School Make Up Days

Schools throughout Eastern Carolina are already selecting make up days for the school days missed at the beginning of this week because of the snow and ice.

Onslow County schools were closed Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Those days will be made up January 21st, January 24th and April 22nd.

Carteret County schools will make up days on February 21st and March 21st.

Jones County will make up their days missed on January 21st and February 21st.

Pamlico County will make up their days on February 21st.

I was under the impression that students would have been made to make up one of the snow days on MLK's Birthday.... It may have been a good opportunity to explain to the children why they had it marked as a "holiday" to begin with, instead of them seeing it as just another day off! EDUCATIONAL VALUE, not whining parents complaining about there child having to go to school... and they'll be the first to cry and complain when their children are failing in school. That my friend, is ridiculous!

half of them don't want to be at school anyway. Would not make any difference either day for some of them if they go 1 day or 180 days.

well, so it's ok for them to be out this Monday? Why not use that as a makeup day. . . OH, I forgot. It's ok.

Great morals you teach your kids: don't like a rule you don't have to follow it. Hope that works out for your kids someday, but I doubt it.

When I was stationed in Japan I watched them attend school 6 days a week ! Sunday was their only day off. And Saturday was a work day also !

Wazzup? Not in my classroom, I will be there. I may be the only one, but it will make for an easy day for this teacher. :)

My county (which shall remain nameless), is using Wednesday as a make up day. Monday, holiday, Tuesday, workday, and kids come back on Wednesday which was also a workday. Gives very little time to get the end of the 9 weeks and semester info in, but the teachers are dedicated and will get the job done. I think it was the best solution. Still a 4 day holiday weekend, just cut short by one day. Teachers also have to make up the workday that we are going to miss, not sure when that will be.

To SERIOUSLY??? No, in fact they do not allow for "a few snow days". The law says schools must operate 180 days in session. If you choose to keep your kids home, fine, but there is nothing ridiculous about making up days missed due to weather. It amazes me the things parents get all bent out of shape over. LOL!
