Lawmen say a man headed to his drug treatment class led them on a high speed chase on a motorcycle today, while they say he was drunk.
Michael Windbourne of Pollocksville is charged with underage DWI, careless/reckless driving, felony flee and elude, and multiple traffic violations.
Jones County Sheriff Danny Heath says he was driving down Highway 58 south, between Trenton and Pollocksville around noon when he spotted the speeding motorcycle. He turned on his blue lights, but the motorcyclist sped up to over 100 miles per hour, passing in a school zone and in a no passing zone. When the driver stopped by the the old EMS building, the sheriff noticed him stumbling and he had an odor of alcohol.
Heath says the 20-year-old Windbourne admitted he saw the blue lights and decided to run anyways. "I made some bad choices," the man told Sheriff Heath.
The Sheriff's Office confiscated the man's motorcycle under the "run and done" law. Windbourne is on probation on drug charges from Jones County.
Windbourne was jailed on a $4,000 bond.
