The small town of Trenton in Jones County is getting a brewery. Out of 26 possible locations in the east, The Beer Army chose a building tucked away in Trenton to start a new brewery.
"All over the place in ENC that we looked into, Trenton really came out and they blew us away. They had everything that we needed. This great facility you see here, the yeast lab, all the help and support," said Beer Army Operations Manager Heith Perkins.
You might know about The Beer Army outpost in James City. It's getting more than $300,000 worth of building renovations provided by the Jones County Economic Development Commission. It plans to open the brewery in Trenton to customers sometime in January.
"One of the things that will make this brewery so unique is that they have an on site fume hood, so that means they'll be able to cultivate their own yeast right here, right inside the brewery," said Jones Co. Economic Director Jayne Robb.
Residents in Trenton are excited about 24 new jobs and more traffic to help boost other business in town.
"We need some more jobs, we need some more excitement here perhaps, but it is a wonderful county and Trenton is a sweet town that is just on the cusp of exciting things," said excited local Wynn Kentworthy.
Over the next five years The Beer Army plans to spend more than $2.7 million to get the company up and running.
