A mother and her son are facing charges after authorities say they found an abused dog on their property.
Jones County Sheriff Danny Heath says Markela Joseph and Latigue Alston, both of Maysville, have been charged with one count of felony animal abuse and a count of misdemeanor animal abuse.
Heath said his deputies found their dog so tightly tied up that it had a huge gash around its neck from the rope.
Deputies took the dog to a vet for treatment. "Treating an animal like this is horrible," said the sheriff.
