One Of Two Men Wanted In Duplin County Murder Nabbed In California

Authorities are awaiting extradition proceedings in California before a murder suspect can be returned to Eastern Carolina.

James Newton was captured at a Santa Barbara hotel Sunday, according to Duplin County Sheriff Blake Wallace.

Newton and Isaiah Smith, both who are from Sampson County, were named as suspects in last month's murder of McKinley Beaty, Jr.

The 21-year-old Norfolk, Virginia man's body was found in front of the KFC restaurant on Highway 24 outside of Warsaw on February 13th. He had been shot multiple times.

Wallace says they continue to search for Smith.

Two Sampson County men have been named as suspects in last week's murder in Duplin County.

Sheriff Blake Wallace says James Newton and Isaiah Smith should be considered armed and dangerous.

The two men are wanted for Thursday's shooting death of McKinley Beaty, Jr. of Norfolk, Virginia.

The 21-year-old's body was found in front of the KFC on Highway 24, west of Warsaw. He had been shot multiple times.

Sheriff Wallace says the two suspects are on the run, though he doesn't know if they have left the area.

No motive has been released yet in the homicide.

Authorities have released the name of a man found dead in front of a fast food restaurant early Thursday morning.

Duplin County Sheriff Blake Wallace says the victim is 21-year-old McKinley Beaty, Jr. from Norfolk, Virginia.

Beaty's body was found around 12:20 a.m. by a Warsaw police officer in front of the KFC, just off the I-40 exit of Highway 24.

Wallace says the man was shot multiple times.

The sheriff says Beaty hadn't been in the area long, and why he was here is still part of the investigation.

Thursday evening deputies released surveillance photos of an SUV that they believe the suspects may have been driving.

No arrests have yet been made in the man's murder.

Deputies are searching for an SUV in connection with a body found on a Duplin County highway.

The man with no identification on him was found dead outside of Warsaw. The victim was shot multiple times.

Duplin County Sheriff Blake Wallace says the body was discovered in a turning lane of Highway 24 in front of the KFC restaurant, west of Warsaw.

The sheriff says a Warsaw police officer made the discovery around 12:20 a.m.

Wallace says it doesn't appear to be random and area residents shouldn't be concerned.

Late Thursday afternoon deputies released a photo of an SUV they are looking for in connection with the homicide. It appears to be a blue SUV with a luggage rack on top.

Sheriff Wallace says it's not clear if the man was shot at the location where his body was found or somewhere else.
