A lawsuit alleges a hog farm in Trenton in Jones County is polluting local waterways with animal waste.
The North Carolina Environmental Justice Network, Waterkeeper Alliance and Neuse Riverkeeper Foundation filed a lawsuit in federal district court saying Taylor Finishing Incorporated and its owners are violating federal environmental laws by disposing of and discharging animal waste into creeks, rivers, ditches and lands surrounding the facility and polluting the Neuse and Trent rivers.
The lawsuit says the farm was given several months to change how it disposed of the waste, but recent water samples still show high levels of fecal coliform, nitrogen and phosphorus.
