A Jones County judge said Tuesday the fate of more than 80 puppies removed from a so-called puppy mill should be decided next week.
In March , the accused puppy mill operators George and Joyce Brown, voluntarily surrendered every animal on their property after being served with a warrant- but they have not been convicted of anything in the case.
A hearing was set for April 13th, and in the meantime, a judge put a stay on the adoption of the animals- meaning the animals would stay in the care of the Humane Society of North Carolina. According to the court, it costs nearly $1,000 a day for the animals to be cared for.
Nothing will change for now, as the judge says he will dedicate an afternoon next week to the case to see if a decision can be made on the puppy mill charges and decide if the animals removed from the brown's property can be adopted.
