Jones County Woman Who Once Ran For Office Arrested For Meth

Deputies say a woman who once saw her name on a local election ballot now has her name on a court calendar for meth charges.

Jones County Deputy D.B. Hale tells WITN's Carly Swain around 7:30 p.m. Thursday night a car parked off a private hunting club trail took off as soon as he passed by. Hale immediately stopped that car for suspicious behavior.

Behind the wheel was 35-year-old Jennifer Simpson-Ward of Maysville, Hale said.

Investigators say they found meth in a ziploc bag inside a pill bottle on Ward.

Ward was then arrested for possession of meth and related charges, including possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver schedule II controlled substance.

Simpson-Ward's name may sound familiar to some. She ran for Register of Deeds in November 2012 but lost,

Ward is in the jail in Jones County under a $100,000 bond.
