A criminal investigation is underway after hundreds of turkeys died this weekend after someone messed with their cooling system in the extreme heat.
Duplin County deputies say 401 turkeys died at Triple B Farm on Outlaw Bridge Road in Albertson either Friday night or Saturday morning.
The farmer told deputies that someone tripped the breakers to his fan and water system that helps keeps the birds cool. Deputies say the doors on the breaker boxes were left open so they themselves would not overheat.
Deputies say there is no surveillance video available, or fingerprints because the breaker boxes were left open.
