Animal control officers are investigating the shooting of a horse Monday afternoon in Jones County.
"Magic" was struck by a small caliber bullet, near her shoulders. After being treated by a veterinarian, the four year old is doing okay.
It happened while "Magic" was in a field off of Highway 58. Owner Jerry Meadows says he called authorities when he noticed blood was coming down her shoulder. He says he heard gunfire earlier in the morning, but didn't think anything about it.
The bullet is still lodged in the horse, and she's being treated with antibiotics and other medications. Meadows says the vet will see how she does, and they may end up leaving the bullet where it is.
"Magic" is one of three horses that are kept in the field. Today, Meadows moved them to another field that's closer to his home.
