The future is uncertain for a child development center in Havelock that is dedicated to teaching special needs children.
The Craven Cherry Point Child Development Center has helped thousands of families and kids learn how to live a happy and healthy life with a disability.
The center helps kids from Craven, Pamlico, Carteret, Jones, Onslow and Beaufort counties.
State regulations have changed. The center is unable to offer infant care now. They have restriction on what programs they can offer because of their facility.
In 2007, they lost 70% of their funding. This year, they lost their Smart Start grant they've depended on since 1999. Thankfully, last week, they received a grant from the Bate Foundation that will make some of that up.
The future remains uncertain.
The center has been in operation for 37 years.
