Deputies said reports of gunfire New Year's Eve resulted in a town hall brawl days later where nine people were charged.
Jones County deputies said on New Year's Eve, Maysville police arranged a standard checkpoint for drivers when they heard gunshots nearby.
Officers drove to the area, where they saw Quinton Bryant run off into a nearby home.
Investigators said people inside the home refused to let police in to find Bryant. Lieutenant Ryan Muse said the officers determined their time was better spent taking out warrants and going about other police work that night.
On Thursday night, Maysville hosted a town hall meeting.
According to Lt. Muse, Maysville officers said they were confident they would find some of the people in harboring Bryant at the Thursday meeting.
Lt. Muse said as officers began making arrests at the meeting, a brawl broke out and one man had to be tasered before being put into a patrol car and taken before a magistrate.
That man, according to deputies, was Joaquin Lanclos. His mother, Brenda Sanders-Lanclos, was also arrested at town hall.
The son was charged with two counts of resisting a public officer, communicating threats, and harboring an escapee. Lanclos' bond was set at $40,000.
Brenda Sanders-Lanclos was charged with assault inflicting injury on a law enforcement officer, two counts of resisting a public officer, and a felony charge of harboring an escapee. Her bond was set at $15,000.
Lt. Muse said the mother and son's charged were a combination from both the New Year's Eve and the town hall incidents.
Jones County jailers said both mother and son bonded out of jail Thursday night.
Deputies said they have yet to locate Bryant. He has outstanding warrants in both Onslow and Jones counties, according to investigators.
Lt. Muse said in total, nine people were charged in connection with either the New Year's Eve incident or the town hall brawl. While their mug shots were not yet available, their names and charges are listed below.
