LAWMEN: Eastern Carolina Youth Minister Caught In Underage Sex Sting

An Eastern Carolina youth minister is in jail after deputies say he tried to meet someone he thought was a 14-year-old girl for sex. Lawmen say that person turned out to be an undercover Guilford County sheriff's deputy.

Thomas Elliott, from the Sampson County community of Roseboro, is charged with solicitation of a child by computer to commit an unlawful sex act and attempted indecent liberties with a minor.

Deputies say Elliott, who is a youth pastor at the Autryville Baptist Church, had been communicating with the undercover deputy for approximately a month over the internet.

Lawmen say the 40-year-old Elliott was arrested Thursday after making the trip to Greensboro and jailed on a $25,000 bond.

A couple of these comments acting like he was entrapped wrongly are so stupid I have to call you out on them. Law enforcement does it that way to protect our children. He knew he was after jailbait, he wouldn't have wanted if it was old enough to be legal. By catching him in a "sting" type situation they have SAVED countless other young girls from his sick desires. He surely would keep trying different young girls until he died of old age, if that is his thing. It's not entrapment, it's a pervert being caught before he can do any MORE damage to young teens. This is probably not his first time, but we can hope it was. No sympathy for molesters! Not from me!

Amen to coolchange....i guess he took his pick...JAIL. But most pedophiles/sex predators seem to take these sort of they are in constant contact with children. So you do have to keep a close watch on these folks. I don't trust anybody!

Let's see if I have this straight. He was a youth minister looking for sex on the internet. He starting talking about sex with someone who identified themself as a 14 year old girl. He set up a meeting with this person who identified themself as a 14 year old girl. He drove to Greensboro with the intent to meet this person who identified themself as a 14 year old girl. And there are actually people who wish to get on this thread and take up for him? Are you kidding me? This person has been entrusted to take care of our children and show them the proper way a Christian lives. He is a representative of his church, and of his congregation. Hopefully they will send him away for a few years and make him register as a sexual predator for the rest of his life. I am glad they perform these sting operations, and I am glad this representative of the church was caught. I hope he was not able to touch a single child before he was caught.
