An Eastern Carolina youth minister is in jail after deputies say he tried to meet someone he thought was a 14-year-old girl for sex. Lawmen say that person turned out to be an undercover Guilford County sheriff's deputy.
Thomas Elliott, from the Sampson County community of Roseboro, is charged with solicitation of a child by computer to commit an unlawful sex act and attempted indecent liberties with a minor.
Deputies say Elliott, who is a youth pastor at the Autryville Baptist Church, had been communicating with the undercover deputy for approximately a month over the internet.
Lawmen say the 40-year-old Elliott was arrested Thursday after making the trip to Greensboro and jailed on a $25,000 bond.
