Duplin County Scam Victim Gets Money Back In Time For Christmas

A Hurricane Irene victim scammed out of thousands of dollars from a man who took his money but didn't clear trees as promised has that money back just in time for Christmas.

In mid October we told you about Frankie Johns, a man police told us was from Florida, but was scamming locals in Beulaville and Kinston. Victims say they'd reach a deal about tree removal, give Johns a down payment in good faith, then he never showed up.

But for one Beulaville victim the case is now closed thanks to Police Chief Joey Carter. Carter says Johns was picked up in Florida. Police and prosecutors agreed to drop charges if Johns made full restitution to Jaime Arriaga. Wednesday Carter delivered money orders in the amount of $2,500 to Arriaga from Johns.

Arriaga says he is very happy and now has some Christmas shopping to do.

Why in the world would any police or DA, keep letting this man pay back the money he was stealing, with his record here in Tampa he should be locked upped and the key thrown away, he's a con artist, thief and he'll continue doing this again and again

I can't believe that the charges were dropped against him. He committed a crime. He should be made to pay the victims in all the cases and have this on his permanent record. Come folks lets be serious!!! Well I guess if i rob the bank because I want or need the money at the time, it ok, because I will be back in a few months with some money orders to pay them back. LOL, Yeah Right!!!!!!!

I was thinking the same thing...WOW. On another note, why would anyone pay for services before they "showed up" to do the work. I had some trees removed earlier this year and the tree service did not get a dime until the crew showed up for work and they got the rest when the job was done. C'mon people, common sense does help.

He is a "politician".....this is just his stepping stone on his way to being the Governor.....if he can get his picture in the paper or get on the 6 o'clock news, he's a happy camper. He does have some good employees working for him.

I'm happy the money was returned, but what exactly did Joey "Superman" Carter do that merits so much press? What about the other victims? Was their money returned?

Seriously, I feel bad that these people were scammed, but for something like that its foolish to give any money up front. Especially a large amount. If you're clearing trees you don't need a down payment. You clear the trees you get paid. That simple.
