Duplin County Man Sentenced In Girlfriend's Death

A Duplin County man has been found guilty in the April 2010 shooting death of his girlfriend last year.

Officials say a 45-year-old Carlus Dwight Langston was sentenced to at least 12 years in prison Friday after a jury found him guilty of second-degree murder in the death of Beverly Knowles.

Authorities say Langston was at Knowles' Beulaville house when they began to argue. The argument moved into the bedroom where the 45-year-old Knowles was fatally shot in the neck and chest with a handgun.

Police arrested Langston about two hours later after Knowles' son called authorities. Langston told investigators he was struggling with Knowles when the gun went off.

(What) No kidding !!!!! They just gave a guy 5 dozen life sentences for robbing banks ( at least one that was in NC).... He didn't kill anyone ....... just made off w/ the cashola. Laws are not written for the benefit of the people, they are written so that lawyers can defend them....... called - Job Security.

I agree "only 12 years"??? The next thing will be if he keeps his behavior under control in prison and goes to a few of their rehab classes ------ due to overpopulation he will prob serve on 1/8 of his sentence or less......... For 2nd degree murder....... How insignificant.

What is this saying to society? What kind of laws do we have? What are the circumstances behind this case that only gave this murderer 12 years? I am jsut wondering what is going on with this, where someone can kill someone else and only recieve 12 yrs. I mean he killed her and ran from law. What is wrong with this picture? I dont understand.
