The Kenansville community in Duplin County is coming together to help a family pay medical bills for a baby girl with brain cancer.
Kenansville has a small population of 869 people, but before noon Friday, they had sold out of 7500 plates and through 60 hogs for the pig pickin' fundraiser. Tens of thousands of dollars were raised in a silent auction as well.
"It breaks my heart, but the family is so strong it has brought our community together. How they're handling it and all the love that is going out is just amazing, its just wonderful," said family friend Sally Heath tearfully.
Baby Layla had her latest MRI on Monday and her tumor has grown, but she is responding well to chemotherapy. She is now having chemo once a week.
