A former Marine is accused of beating his seven year old son with a belt so severely that the child ended up in the hospital.
Zatrick Webber of Maysville was arrested today by Jones County deputies on charges of intentional child abuse with severe bodily injury and assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury.
The 28-year-old man is in jail on a $125,000 secured bond.
Arrest warrants say the child was found at Onslow Memorial Hospital with multiple bruises and open lacerations on his rear, arms, neck, torso and back.
Experienced law enforcement officers say they were appalled by what they saw and additional charges against Webber are pending.
Deputies say the child is doing okay and is now home with his mother.
